On April 6, 2005, Representative Rob Bishop (R-UT) introduced H.R. 1503 which would prevent high-level nuclear waste storage in Utah’s West Desert, preserve Utah’s military training capabilities, and protect 100,000 acres of magnificent, desert range known as the Cedar Mountains as wilderness.
On March 30, 2005, the Deshutes County (OR) Commission decided to take no position on the Badlands Wilderness proposal -- much to the disappointment of local conservation groups and local citizens who support the protection of the area.
