Mary joined The Wilderness Society in 2000. Her work focused on forest planning, the projects that implement those plans and the legal and regulatory framework that guides federal land management. In addition to her work up and down the east coast, Mary worked on priority plans and projects across the country in order to ensure unacceptable precedents are not set.Mary is one of our resident “policy jack of all trades,” working on everything from timber modeling in Alaska to endangered species protection in West Virginia to cultural resource preservation in Colorado. She also tracks federal policy and regulatory changes and prepares official comments on same.

Mary was awarded the Gregg Leibowitz Memorial Staff Award in 2009.

Prior to her work here, she spent 11 years with the U.S. Forest Service, working as an archaeologist, National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) coordinator and forest planner.

Born and raised in Minnesota, Mary holds a B.A. in anthropology, with an emphasis in archaeology, from the University of Minnesota. She now lives in Massachusetts. In her free time, she is active in disaster response planning for companion animals.
