Pat Byington came to The Wilderness Society in 2003 from Americans for Our Heritage and Recreation, where he served as outreach coordinator in the South.
At TWS, Pat focuses on programmatic federal conservation funding in the East. He works with numerous groups throughout the region in an effort to increase and secure conservation funding for several federal programs including the Land and Water Conservation Fund and the Forest Legacy Program.
Formerly the Executive Director of the Alabama Environmental Council, Pat has worked as an environmental consultant for Auburn University's Center for Forest Sustainability, the American Lung Association, and the Southern Environmental Center at Birmingham Southern College. He now serves as chair of the Eastern Forest Partnership.
In 2001, Pat was appointed by Alabama Governor Don Siegelman to the state's Environmental Management Commission. Pat received a B.A. in Latin American and Environmental Studies from the University of Alabama in 1988.
In his spare time, Pat publishes the Bama Environmental News, serves on the boards of numerous state and regional organizations and is a regular editorial contributor to various newspapers throughout Alabama.
He plays soccer and loves to take walks in the woods with his wife of 19 years, Kathy, and their 5 year old daughter Whitney.
