Oil shale investigation is encouraging

November 5, 2009 - The Department of the Interior is calling for an investigation of a Bush-era deal on oil shale leases that grossly favored industry over American taxpayers. The investigation, announced Oct. 20, will look into excessively low royalty rates and other benefits that were tacked onto oil shale research-and-development leases in the final days of Bush administration. more

Conservation Funding Gets Big Boost: Senate invests in wildlife, climate change, wildfire and more

October 30, 2009 - Wildlife, wildfire suppression, climate change research and other natural resource programs get a much-needed boost in funding in the 2010 Interior Appropriations bill. The 16.8 percent increase is a welcome change after eight years of inadequate funding that had led to the shutdown of some National Wildlife Refuges and research programs, as well as shortfalls in funding for firefighting on public lands. more
