Cornelia Funke is in the dream business. A children’s author and lifelong lover of wilderness, Cornelia draws inspiration from wild places when writing stories that inspire young readers.
Cornelia says that she is absolutely sure that a child who is exposed to nature will have a wilder imagination. She wants to keep that source of imagination alive by protecting wild places and engaging young people with nature.
Walking under a forest canopy, a brilliant blue sky and a trail dotted with colorful wildflowers, Cornelia marveled at the wild beauty of California’s San Gabriel Mountains. The San Gabriel Mountains — a short drive from Los Angeles where Cornelia lives and works — are just one of many wild places in California that The Wilderness Society is working to protect.
