San Gabriel Mountains Forever is working to protect additional wild lands and rivers. We are also building support for a National Recreation Area that will improve visitor services for millions.
Wilderness Designation
Preserving wilderness in the San Gabriel Mountains will protect water, air, wildlife habitat and recreation. Working with the partnership San Gabriel Mountains Forever, we are focused on protecting an additional:
- 36,000 acres of wilderness in three existing areas
- 44 miles of waterways as wild and scenic rivers
National Recreation Area
San Gabriel Mountains Forever is also building support for a San Gabriel Mountains National Recreation Area. This recreation area would include the Angeles National Forest and some lower urban areas of the San Gabriel River. Our partnership is working to improve recreation for millions of visitors who may not currently have access to parks or outdoor recreation.
