Dan Smuts is our California Regional Director. Dan has been with The Wilderness Society’s California/Nevada Regional Office since September 2000. Prior to joining The Wilderness Society, he worked as a public lands advocate and Political Action Committee staff with Sierra Club in Washington, DC for four years and then moved to Salt Lake City, Utah where he lobbied the Utah state government for Sierra Club and served as Communications Director for The National BLM Wilderness Campaign.

Dan has a BA in Economics from Georgetown University and an MBA from University of California, Berkeley, Haas School of Business.  He was also a Center for Social Innovation Fellow at Stanford University Graduate School of Business.
