Kate’s role is to strategically plan and direct The Wilderness Society's communications efforts that support new protection campaigns for wild places across the country. She works closely with the energy and constituency building teams to coordinate media outreach efforts that culminate in successful new designations for wilderness.
Kate comes to TWS after more than 15 years working on advocacy communications for national parks, climate change and wilderness and wild and scenic rivers. She most recently worked for the past 11 years for the Arizona Wilderness Coalition, directing outreach and campaign communications. She originally hails from coastal New England, where her passion for wild places (and Fenway Park) was kindled. In 2014, Kate moved her family out of the Sonoran Desert and up to the cooler climes of Idaho, where she works out of TWS’s Boise office.
Kate holds a B.A. in American Studies and English from the University of Virginia and a master’s degree in Environmental Law from Vermont Law School.
