Mario serves as Public Lands Community Organizer for the New Mexico office in Albuquerque. Working with a diverse population of stakeholders, he helps to advance wildlands designations for the Rio Grande Watershed landscape.
Mario was born and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He graduated from Kenyon College in Ohio with a B.A. in Political Science and is fluent in Spanish. Before starting with The Wilderness Society, he worked for three years in Peru with the U.S. Peace Corps as a Youth Development Volunteer. For two years he worked with schools in a small town in the southern Andes – in Sibayo, Arequipa – and his third year he helped oversee the Youth Program as Volunteer Coordinator in the central office in Lima.
As a New Mexico native who grew up camping in the Pecos Wilderness and the Santa Fe National Forest, he feels lucky that 'work' means keeping wild places wild.
