Foreign conglomerates would love to develop one of the world's largest open-pit mines--known as Pebble Mine--in the heart of Alaska's wild Bristol Bay region, an area known for the largest salmon runs in the world. But what they don't advertise is that this proposed gold and copper mine would require an enormous waste pit that would store 1,000 pounds of mining waste for every person on the planet--right in the middle of Alaska wilderness.
