Colorado hiking trail #5: Lizard Head Pass [Difficult]: Located in the San Juan National Forest, starting just northwest of Telluride, this wilderness area provides avid hikers with a couple of good fourteeners: Prepare to sweat. With an uninterrupted landscape of flowing alpines, and three fourteeners to choose from, many travel to this hiking spot for the magnificent view and the challenging, steep slopes.

A historically unique railroad skirts the bottom of Red Mountain Pass, Hesperus Pass and Lizard Head Pass which can be seen from the east side of the trail in this wilderness area that bikers and hikers often stop to marvel over.
