Colorado hiking trail #6. Ptarmigan Peak Trail [Easy]:
Located in the White River National Forest, just northeast of Vail, this wilderness area, although less mileage than the average hiking trails, provides a variety of views along the trail including wet meadows and streams flowing through the valleys and thick, green aspen groves and evergreen clusters.
Once atop the summit, an 11,500 foot ascension, the serene landscape of Lake Dillon and the snow-capped peaks of the Gore Range satisfy the eyes with hues of natural greens and blues. Summer and fall are the best times to make a family trip to this wilderness area and set up tents in one of several sites.
