Colorado hiking trail #8. Pancake Rocks [Moderate, Easily accessible]:
Located in Pike National Forest, just southwest of Colorado Springs, this unusual stack of desert-esque rocks may leave an avid hiker hungry for more.
A steep ascension to a small valley that peers through to the unique rock formations makes the exertion seem mild compared with climbing the next ridge that leads you to the high peak where you are amidst the staggering stack of rock piles. With thick forest-lined mountain views of the Gilette Flats in the valley below, and mountains surrounding painted with various wildflowers, this trip, although a very steep climb, makes even a city dweller want to delve into nature and its intense beauty more often.
