It seemed fitting this week to showcase a national park photo as a way to spotlight the budget cuts that will soon be harming our nation's 'greatest idea', the National Park System.

Right now, Congress is instituting deep budget cuts to federal programs as part of a mandated sequestration. National Park Service budgets are expected to decrease by about 5 percent. If allowed to go forward, visitors can expect visitor center closures; less staffing for campgrounds and ranger-led programs; road closures and cuts to important conservation programs. The Wilderness Society is urging Congress slash outdated oil and gas subsidies rather than harm our irreplaceable national parks and conservation programs.
