America's Bighorn Sheep Need Help Now

April 12, 2012 - Bighorn Sheep are one of the West’s iconic wildlife species, conjuring images of rugged mountains and deep, sheer-walled canyons. What was once one of the most widespread wildlife species in the West is now only at a fraction of its former number. One of the leading causes for declines in Bighorn Sheep is disease passed from domestic sheep grazing on public lands in Bighorn Sheep habitat. Many national forest roads were built during the frenzied decades of the logging boom and were simply abandoned. The Forest Service currently has around 375,000 miles of known system roads – enough to travel around the earth 15 times. Many of these roads are unneeded, causing tremendous environmental damage, and should be reclaimed and reforested. more
