If you thought it was fun deciphering big game tracks on your last trip to the wild, you’re going to love this. A guided tour of dinosaur tracks embedded in sandstone millions of years ago is part of the 3rd annual Amazing Earthfest this year around Kanab, Utah.
The festival runs May 17 to 23 with events designed to celebrate the magnificent landscapes, diverse ecology, and cultural heritage of the Colorado Plateau.
Events feature hiking, cycling, and horseback riding; scientific discovery, including outings on botany, wildlife, archaeology, paleontology, astronomy, forestry, and wildfire; a series of award-winning documentary films; plus performances of live music, exhibitions of visual arts and paintings, great food, and modern dance.
The Colorado Plateau is in the Four Corners region of the United States and takes up much of Colorado, Utah, New Mexico, and Arizona. This large landmass is made up of mostly federal public land and tribal land and contains many of our most prized areas, including the Grand Canyon, Arches National Park, Gunnison Gorge, Chaco Canyon, Desolation Canyon and the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. Currently, access to many of these lands is threatened by energy development, illegal off-road vehicle use, and the impacts of climate change. These issues and more will be discussed at events throughout the week.
Whether it is recreation, education, fine arts, or good food that you crave, the Amazing Earthfest has it all. To find out more and to see a list of events, check out: www.amazingearthfest.com.
