Central Rockies Region Internship

The Wilderness Society’s Central Rockies Regional Office has an opening for a paid full-time public lands intern (37.5 hours per week) for six months. This intern will continue our work in building support for the protection of proposed wilderness in Colorado and defending key landscapes and watersheds from harm. This is an opportunity to gain valuable experience working with the environmental community of Colorado.
The Wilderness Society has worked since 1935 to protect wilderness and to inspire Americans to care for our wild places.
The internship involves:
- Working within a network of conservation groups in Colorado to improve protection of Colorado’s wildlands, through periodic coalition meetings and individual consultations, coordinating activities with other activists around the state.
- Contacting local businesses, scientists, and other key interest groups to support the current wilderness proposals.
- Writing letters, action alerts, and fact sheets to motivate supporters and influence decisionmakers. Conducting research for these writing projects and for improved advocacy.
- Contacting Wilderness Society membership through mail, e-mail and phone to relay urgent campaign actions and information.
Qualifications:
Well-organized with good attention to details, good writing skills, personable phone skills and sense of humor. Interest in and understanding of public land management issues desirable.
