Jerry Franklin
Known as the “father of new forestry,” Wilderness Society governing council member Jerry Franklin has been studying the forests of the Pacific Northwest for over 50 years and has published more than 400 scientific articles. After 14 years as a researcher for the U.S. Forest Service, Franklin served two years as director of the Ecosystem Studies Program at the National Science Foundation, and 16 years as the Forest Service’s chief plant ecologist for the Pacific Northwest. A professor at the University of Washington, he has received numerous honors, including the Heinz Award for the Environment.
