Excerpts:
A tearful Lydia Olympic claimed the 2009 Ellanak Environmental Excellence Award on Feb. 4 at the Alaska Forum on the Environment.
The annual award is dedicated to the late Daniel Ellanak of Ouzinkie, who was known for his networking skills as he applied them to his mission to “take care of your homeland.”
…“He was always the one I talked to when I went to work in this area." Olympic was nominated for her work with the Wilderness Society and the Igiugig Village Council. She is featured in the 2008 Film “Red Gold,” a celebration of Alaska fish and the efforts to protect them from the effects of mining in the state. Olympic will travel to London soon when the film begins its international film festival tour
