Wilderness Society governing council Member Tom Barron is known as “T.A. Barron” in the book world. His bestselling children’s and science fiction novels include To Walk In Wilderness, The Great Avalon trilogy and The Lost World of Merlin epic. The fantasy worlds in Barron’s novels face the same environmental tribulations as our own world. Every year, Barron awards the Gloria Barron Prize for Young Heroes to 25 young people dedicated to helping other people or the environment. The award is named for his mother. A Rhodes Scholar, he is a longtime trustee of Princeton University. In 1997, The Wilderness Society honored Barron with its highest citizen's honor the Robert Marshall Award.
