The Wilderness Society works to ensure that transmission development on public lands avoids impacts to important wildlands and supports transport of renewable energy over new fossil fuel generation sources.

Transmission projects on public lands that TWS is engaged in:
- SunZia Southwest Transmission Project: A set of proposed transmission lines connecting wind and solar resources in New Mexico and Arizona.
- Tri-State/Xcel Proposed San Luis Valley Transmission Line: This proposed transmission line over La Veta Pass into Colorado’s San Luis Valley is intended to increase the area’s transmission reliability and to access solar resources in the San Luis Valley. The USDA’s Rural Utility Service is currently accepting scoping comments on the proposed routes for the line.
- New Mexico Renewable Energy Transmission Authority: Created by state law in 2007, RETA was designed to plan and finance new transmission projects to support renewable energy within New Mexico. RETA has developed a map of draft transmission corridors around the state intended to serve high-potential renewable energy areas and is currently refining them with public input.

TransWest Express Transmission Project
The TransWest Express Transmission Project is a proposed 600 kV direct current transmission line that crosses parts of Wyoming, Colorado, Utah and Nevada. The project intends to carry renewable energy generated in Wyoming to the Las Vegas area. -
Gateway South Transmission Project
The Gateway South Transmission Project is a proposed 500 kV overhead, alternating current transmission line that would cross more than 400 miles in Wyoming, Colorado, and Utah.
