In December 2008 the Bush Administration approved changes to the Endangered Species Act that significantly weaken protections for imperiled species. Weakening this act ensures that impacts — of global warming and a host of other activities — never have to be assessed for their effects on threatened and endangered species. Throughout the fall, conservation groups, including The Wilderness Society, protested the changes, which are certain to have far-reaching impacts on listed species and their habitat.
