Experts discuss national and grassroots renaming efforts, what you can do to help

Thousands of mountains, rivers and other features on public lands have racist and offensive names. These names make public lands unwelcoming and perpetuate a history of colonial oppression. It's time to change that.

In collaboration with the National Association of Tribal Historic Preservation Officers and The Natural History Museum, The Wilderness Society hosted a conversation with grassroots activists, scientists and community leaders about the scope of the problem and what the public can do to help. Panelists also discussed ongoing local and national renaming efforts and a new guide that outlines the name-changing process.
