Report outlines gaps in natural gas industry rhetoric

Feb 23, 2010

A new Wilderness Society economic briefing paper looks at the recent downturn in natural gas drilling and refutes the industry’s claims that it has been hindered by Obama administration environmental policies. Among the report’s findings:

  • The downturn in natural gas drilling began in 2008 — well before the Obama Administration took office and instituted reforms of leasing regulations to protect wildlife and other public values.
  • The primary reason for the downturn in natural gas drilling is a significant drop in natural gas prices.
