Tougher worker safety regulations chart right course on offshore drilling

Sep 30, 2010

The Wilderness Society issued the following statement today from TWS President William H. Meadows in response to the Department of Interior issuing new rules for offshore drilling safety.

“For too long, oil and gas companies have gotten away with a lax regulatory structure that has resulted in lives lost and extensive and unnecessary environmental harm. The Department of Interior continues to chart the right course on energy development by issuing essential regulations and improving oversight of offshore operations. The Wilderness Society looks forward to working with the Interior on additional measures to improve the safety and environmental protection of offshore operations.”
