Our western communities are defined by our public lands. These lands provide the clean air, fresh water and scenic beauty that attract new business and build solid communities. They sustain the wildlife, recreational opportunities and natural resources that drive our economies.
Public lands also supply the wild places and untrammeled landscapes that are the backbone of our history as Americans. To paraphrase Wallace Stegner, the lands are the "challenge against which our character as a people was formed." Now our generation is looking into the best ways to preserve these lands, while balancing the multiple uses these diverse places provide our communities.
