National Conservation Lands 2012 Policy Handbook

Wednesday, February 1, 2012

Over the past few years the Department of the Interior and Bureau of Land Management (BLM) have made great strides in setting strong policy guidance for the National Conservation Lands. In 2010, the National Conservation Lands: 1) lacked unifying management policy; as well as 2) the necessary policies and procedures to ensure adequate protection of their outstanding resources. Just three years later, the National Conservation Lands have a unifying management vision directed by Secretarial Order 3308. In addition, BLM released a 15-Year Strategic Plan in 2011 which contains strong conservation language and goals for protecting the objects and values for managing the lands within the National Conservation Lands. In essence, the necessary policies and procedures are in place at the national level to ensure adequate protection of the National Conservation Lands outstanding resources.
