The Wilderness Society and Natural Resources Defense Council testimony for the record

Dear Chairman Murkowski & Ranking Member Cantwell,

In advance of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee hearing on energy accountability and reform legislation we would like to submit for your hearing record our views on S. 1407 the Public Land Renewable Energy Development Act of 2015. We thank you for your leadership and encourage you to consider and include this bi-partisan legislation in a comprehensive energy package.

The Wilderness Society and Natural Resources Defense Council are committed to seeing environmentally responsible clean energy deployed on public lands. Renewable energy including wind, solar and geothermal is critically important to enhancing U.S. energy security and reducing the fossil energy emissions linked to climate change. But, as with any form of infrastructure, not all places are appropriate for renewable energy–some places are simply too wild or too sensitive to develop. And wherever development occurs, it must take place in a responsible manner to ensure the health and resilience of our natural resources.
