S. 1000 Support Letter: Saving Energy Saves Lands

Friday, June 29, 2012

The Wilderness Society along with 35 partner organizations, sent a letter to Senate leadership in support of S.1000, the "Energy Savings and Industrial Competitiveness Act" authored by Senators Shaheen (D-NH) and Portman (R-OH). Although this is one of many letters from across interest groups and the private sector, it addresses a unique and important benefit of energy efficiency--that lowering energy use reduces the amount of new infastructure we need to built, or saving energy saves lands.  Important contributors to the energy efficiency discussion, organizations such as land trusts and wildlife advocates are engaging in not only where we site energy, but we responsibly use it.
