User's Guide: Understanding and implementing Wild Lands policy

Tuesday, March 15, 2011

Secretarial Order 3310 sets out a policy for designating and managing Wild Lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). Following this Order, the BLM released three new manuals for implementing the policy, addressing:

Inventorying Lands with Wilderness Characteristics (Manual 6301);
Consideration of Lands with Wilderness Characteristics in the Land Use Planning Process (Manual 6302); and
Consideration of LWCs for Project-Level in Areas Not Analyzed in Accordance with BLM Manual 6302 (Manual 6303).
To help understand the BLM Wild Lands policy, we have condensed the Secretarial Order and three manuals into a succinct User’s Guide. The guide has key points for each document to make it easier to find the guidance that applies to different steps of the process.
