OLYMPIA - Congress and the Obama administration are responding with on-the-ground results in response to appeals by a coalition of conservation groups and the state Departments of Ecology and Fish & Wildlife.

Federal action is now occurring to repair and reclaim crumbling national forest roads in Washington state that have been harming endangered salmon and clean water.

“Today is a great day for the people of Oregon — and the country — as the U.S. Department of the Interior withdrew legally flawed plans for the management of Oregon’s western public forests under the Bureau of Land Management. This important decision will help preserve ancient forests that provide critical wildlife habitat, clean drinking water and outstanding recreational opportunities — all of which positively impact the economic vitality of Oregon’s coastal communities.

SAN FRANCISCO – The White House release Tuesday of “Global Climate Change Impacts in the United States” forecasts a dim future for California if action is not taken immediately.

WASHINGTON — A report released today by The Wilderness Society emphasizes the enormous carbon reserves held by forests in the contiguous states — roughly equivalent to more than 20 years of current United States greenhouse gas emissions from industrial and other sources. Across the U.S., public and protected forests generally store the most carbon.
