Obama creates Pinnacles National Park in California

If seeing the national parks is on your bucket list, it's time to take note and add another park to the list. Pinnacles, the dramatic volcanic-spired national monument in central California, is now Pinnacles National Park.
Conservation bills brought before Senate Committee
Numerous bills that failed to pass before Congress adjourned last Congressional session are receiving their first hearing today in the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee’s Subcommittee on National Parks.
From California to New York, the bills being reviewed would protect historical, cultural and natural treasures, such as wilderness areas and precious water supplies.
WASHINGTON, DC – Regional officials and supporters applauded Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA) for reintroducing a bill that would upgrade Pinnacles National Monument to a National Park.
The Senator’s legislation – co-sponsored by Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) – will further protect Pinnacles’ unique lands and its new National Park status would boost tourism to the area.
