Interactive map provides valuable resource for LGBTQ+ adventurers

The outdoors may provide a space for some to find solace, adventure or a deep connection with the world. However, for members of the LGBTQ+ community, navigating outdoor spaces has not always been a positive experience due to experiences with discrimination and/or fears for safety and acceptance.

Fortunately, in recent years, a growing number of LGBTQ+ outdoor groups and communities have emerged across the United States, fostering inclusivity, support and a sense of belonging. These groups have played an instrumental role in breaking down barriers, challenging stereotypes and creating safe outdoor spaces where LGBTQ+ individuals can fully embrace their identities while enjoying the wonders of nature.

To highlight the significance of these groups and provide a valuable resource for LGBTQ+ adventurers, we are sharing TWS and Pride Outside's LGBTQ Outdoor Groups map!

This cool interactive map shines a spotlight on incredible LGBTQ+ outdoor organizations across the country. We hope it can serve not only as a resource for connecting with these amazing organizations, but also serves as a powerful testament to the importance of fostering a sense of community, acceptance and empowerment within the outdoors space. Find an outdoor group near you and get outside!

You may use this map by looking up a specific location in the search box at the top, or you can click directly on a region to find groups within a general area. Outdoor groups will pop up as icons on the map and on the left side bar, and they’ll both include an overview of the organization along with their contact information. For optimal use, we recommend exploring this platform on a computer rather than a phone.

These groups serve as a chance to make friends, share adventures and build a network of support.

They are also powerful platforms for advocacy, challenging societal norms and promoting visibility and acceptance. Ultimately, they contribute to changing the narrative around LGBTQ+ representation in outdoor activities.
