On April 6, The Wilderness Society assembled a fake oil rig on the National Mall in a protest of the U.S. government's willingness to lease our wildest public lands to oil and gas drilling companies.

The oil rig was a visual representation of the oil drilling that is happening now in wilderness-quality public lands all over America, and the threat that oil drilling represents to lands like the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

“The goal was to elevate the threat that the Trump Administration and Secretary Zinke pose to our parks, monuments and wildlife refuges,” said Chase Huntley, Energy & Climate Program Director at The Wilderness Society.
