Interactive map: See which public lands are threatened by early Trump orders

Mason Cummings, The Wilderness Society

The Trump administration is quietly working to strip protections from millions of acres of America’s most treasured public lands—turning them over to drilling, mining and logging interests, without public input or transparency. From Bears Ears to the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, iconic landscapes, wildlife habitats and Indigenous lands could face irreversible damage.

So we’ve mapped out what’s at stake: Check out our new interactive map below to see which lands near you and across the country are at risk

The administration’s recent orders threaten millions of acres of public lands nationwide, by calling on federal agencies to take steps that will begin the process of:

  • Reinstating canceled oil and gas leases in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and rolling back Biden administration protections, threatening the homeland and subsistence resources for Indigenous communities in the area;
  • Removing “roadless” forest protections in Alaska’s Tongass National Forest, one of the world’s last intact temperate rainforests;
  • Revoking protections from drilling that the Biden administration instituted for lands surrounding New Mexico’s Chaco Canyon;
  • Rolling back resource management plans that provide protections for Wyoming’s Northern Red Desert and greater sage-grouse habitat; and more.
