September 3, 2014 is the 50th anniversary of the Wilderness Act. To honor this momentous occasion, The Wilderness Society and the Getches-Wilkinson Center invite you to celebrate the act and the wild lands this landmark law protects. Join us at Celebrating the Great Law: The Wilderness Act at 50, a wilderness conference and celebration at the University of Colorado on Sept. 4-5. We promise you no ordinary conference, but rather a heartfelt love song to wilderness with an exciting line-up of speakers who have made wilderness a major part of their lives!
Conference speakers include:
- Wilderness Society President Jamie Williams
- renowned Colorado landscape photographer John Fielder (One of Fielder's photos of Longs Peak is featured to the right on this page)
- the Honorable Greg Hobbs, Colorado Supreme Court Justice, among many others.
The conference is free and open to the public. Anyone with an interest in wilderness is welcome to attend.
No ordinary conference
This will not be an ordinary conference, full of dry presentations or heated policy debates. Instead, this will be a full-throated love song to wild country.
We will bring together the most insightful and compelling Wilderness luminaries:
- writers and storytellers
- historians and educators
- photographers, poets and musicians
Attendees will be those Americans who make wilderness an important part of their lives and who simply take comfort in its existence.
By telling the story of Wilderness over the course of the last 50 years, we will spark a renewed determination to continue to preserve and enhance some of our most precious and sacred American assets.
