These 170 organizations join Minnesota’s Governor Dayton, other elected officials, four Minnesota and First Nation Chippewa tribes, thousands of medical professionals, and more than 50 scientists in urging protection.
The bill, S. 2877, is similar in its intent to H.R. 1349, the “wheels over wilderness bill,” which was introduced by Congressman Tom McClintock (R-Calif.). More than 100 outdoor groups oppose H.R. 1349.
The bill would protect Chaco ruins and the greater landscape surrounding the Chaco Culture National Historical Park by preventing any future leasing or development of minerals owned by the federal government located within a protected radius around Chaco.
