In a historic move, four Alaska legislators from across the state this morning voted against House resolution HJR 5, which urges Congress to open the coastal plain of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge for oil exploration. Five representatives were absent.
The Wilderness Society praised a bipartisan resolution in the U.S. House of Representatives that expresses the sense of Congress that “America’s Federal public lands are national treasures that belong to all Americans and which should be maintained for future generations.”
