Spending Reduction Act breaks bank on public health

Jan 25, 2011

WASHINGTON  -- The Wilderness Society issued the following statement today in response to the U.S. House of Representatives passing the Spending Reduction Act of 2011.

“The Spending Reduction Act of 2011 takes the wrong approach to our nation’s fiscal challenges -- we need to apply a scalpel to the nation’s budget, not a saw,” said Alan Rowsome, director of conservation funding for The Wilderness Society. “This bill would reduce spending dedicated to giving us fresh air to breathe, clean water to drink, and open spaces to exercise in. Cutting these investments now will lead to increased spending later to repair the damage done to our public lands and to our health.”
