Statement from Bill Meadows on Carol Browner leaving the White House

Jan 25, 2011

The following statement from The Wilderness Society President William H. Meadows is in response to the news that Carol Browner, chief environmental and energy adviser to President Obama, will be leaving the White House.

""America owes Carol Browner a huge debt of gratitude for her vision and persistence over many years of service.  In the last two years, she has been at the President’s side, focusing the country on the looming climate crisis and on practical ways to turn it into a major opportunity for new jobs and a clean energy future.  As a result, the Administration brought the debate to a point never before reached -- just a handful of votes shy in the Senate of passing a comprehensive approach to clean energy and pollution reduction.

"We owe Carol Browner in no small measure for the health of our communities, for the continuing the vitality of our wilderness areas, our parks and great rivers, for helping to contain the worst oil spill in our nation's history, and for laying out a path to a non-polluting future. "
