Statement from The Wilderness Society

The following statement from The Wilderness Society President Jamie Williams is in response to today’s celebration at Pinnacles National Park in California.

“Americans can celebrate a wonderful milestone today: Pinnacles is now our country’s 59th national park. This scenic and unique destination attracts hikers, climbers and visitors who want to explore its volcanic rock ‘pinnacles,’ enjoy quiet vistas from oak savannas and view the endangered California condor.

“As a national park that will draw more tourists, Pinnacles will also bring more economic benefits to local communities.

“This legislation was the result of years of dedicated efforts by Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA), Representative Sam Farr (D, CA-20), and other leaders. We congratulate Representative Farr and Senator Boxer for making Pinnacles National Park a reality.”
